3 Tips For 2022
Simplifying the present for future results.
Are you grateful for your written goals? Are you reaching them? Let 2022 be a different kind of year. One that is full of growth and opportunity.
In October 2021 I finally vanquished my life-demon, booze, once and for all. I took away its power.
That same month I also started my company. I made a few bucks and paid the bills. I also made a shitload of errors in 2021. I am grateful for all of it. With my newfound clarity, I am able to learn quickly and recover even quicker.
1. Fear
This emotion will always be present, it is unavoidable. It is ingrained in us for survival, so don’t fight it. Accept it and jump into the deep end anyway. The adrenaline rush will change your life. Mel Robbins has a simple tool for you to overcome fear. In any situation, you have a choice to do it or not. Use her 5-second rule. It goes like this.
- You have a choice.
- One will give you satisfaction the other regret.
- The safe bet will get you nowhere, but yet you choose that one. We all do.
- Your life will be full of regret if it isn’t already.
- OK, her rule is this: every time you have to make a choice count for 5 to 1 and do what you know will give you the best results within that countdown. If you choose wrongly live with it and move on.
Willpower
Some people have it. Most of us don’t. So how do you turn this deficit into a superpower? You don’t. You make yourself accountable.
Some things that help are meditation, exercise, and journaling.
Mediation allows you to focus internally, thus helping your mind, body, and soul become aligned with the smallest amount of effort. So go ahead and pencil it into your calendar. Do it twice a week for 5 minutes to start off with. You can increase frequency and duration with practice.
Exercise is work, so of course, it is avoided. Exercise allows you to focus while strengthening your body. A good-looking body gives you great self-esteem. Schedule it on your calendar for 3 times a week. Do 10 burpees during each session and then take a delicious shower. Increase frequency and duration when you feel it is necessary.
Journaling makes you productive. Don’t write an autobiography instead turn it into your action guide. Before you go to sleep every night jot down what you accomplished, learned, and are grateful for. Then write down one or two tasks to accomplish the next day. That’s it. Keep it brief, but do it every day.
Philosophy
Socrates presents a simple reality for all of us. Whenever you are about to think, say, or act ask yourself these 3 things.
- Is what you are thinking, saying, or acting on true? Were you a witness or are you working on hearsay?
- Is what you are thinking, saying, or acting on to the benefit of anyone? If not why dwell in it? There is enough negativity in the world.
- Is what you are thinking, saying, or acting on necessary? Will it create positive change?
If you follow this simple philosophy-formula things become clear and it allows you to spend time wisely. Everything that you thought was important before becomes irrelevant. This is a good thing. Silence is bliss. Less is more. And peace is your reward.
Have a great 2022. Accomplish all your goals.
